2. Asset Prices, Borrowing Constraints, and Aggregate Fluctuations
3. Monetary Transmission Mechanisms (balance sheet channel, bank lending channel, risk-taking channel)
4. Models of Bank Runs
5. Monetary Policy and Financial Stability

課程目標
This course focuses on the role of financial frictions in macroeconomic and monetary theories. Financial frictions arises from problems related to asymmetric information (adverse selection and moral hazard) and limited commitment (limited enforcement). We will discuss how financial frictions affect borrowing capacities of borrowers, and the role of collateral value in amplifying propagating exogenous shocks to drive fluctuations of economic aggregates and asset prices. Moreover, we will discuss models in which financial shocks act as a source of business cycle fluctuations. Next we turn to empirical works on monetary transmission mechanisms, examining the credit channel and risk-taking channel. We then discuss models of bank runs that may occur due to weak bank balance sheet and asset fire sale. Finally, we study issues related to monetary policies and macro-prudential policies in mitigating business cycles as well as maintaining financial stability.
